Reverse description Faithful recreation of William Wyon's celebrated 1839 'Una and the Lion' design, depicting a crowned Queen Victoria, robed in a flowing classical gown and wearing the Star of the Garter, resting her left hand upon the mane of a large lion walking beside her while holding a sceptre in her right hand. The composition is rendered in high relief on a mirror-polished field, set upon a raised ground line. The Latin motto DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS arcs across the upper field in two parts flanking the central group, the Roman numeral date MDCCCXXXIX appears in the lower field, and the engraver's signature W. WYON R.A. is inscribed below. The design is enclosed by a beaded inner border.
