Issued on the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, this Jersey gold piece appeared in 1990 alongside a wave of Commonwealth commemoratives marking the same milestone. Jersey's occupation by German forces from June 1940 through May 1945 gives the island a sharper claim to this subject than most issuing authorities — the battle being fought, in part, to prevent the kind of invasion the islanders had already experienced firsthand.
