Egypt hosted COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh in November 2022, the first time the UN climate conference had been held on African soil since COP17 in Durban eleven years prior. The Central Bank issued this commemorative to mark the occasion — a relatively straightforward exercise in numismatic diplomacy, with silver at .720 fineness placing it squarely in the older European commemorative tradition rather than the .925 now common for such issues.
