| Obverse description | Uncrowned, draped effigy of King Charles III facing left, modelled by engraver Martin Jennings, occupying the central field against a finely engine-turned guilloche background. The legend arcs around the periphery, reading CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 100 POUNDS, with the engraver's initials MJ discreetly placed below the truncation. The portrait is rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and facial features. |

| Additional information |
The Royal Arms design used on British gold bullion has carried legal tender face values since the Sovereign series was restructured for modern bullion coinage — a formality that matters little commercially but preserves the coin's status under UK tax law as exempt from Capital Gains Tax. The accession of Charles III required a complete re-engraving of the obverse effigy, with the new portrait by sculptor Martin Jennings entering circulation on British coinage in 2023.
