The dates 1926 and 2022 flank the cypher to the left and right respectively, commemorating the birth and passing of Queen Elizabeth II. An elaborate wreath of roses, foliage, and wildflowers in high relief encircles the lower portion of the design, crafted by engraver Mike Guilfoyle in a naturalistic style. The memorial legend IN LOVING AND DEVOTED MEMORY arcs around the upper periphery, and the denomination £100 appears in the lower field above the floral arrangement. The Isle of Man has long operated as an unusually autonomous issuing authority, striking commemorative coinage under its own treasury rather than through the Royal Mint — a privilege rooted in the island's status as a Crown dependency with its own parliament, Tynwald, claimed to be among the oldest continuous parliaments in the world. This kilogram piece was issued in 2023, making it one of the earliest large-format commemoratives to carry both Elizabeth II and Charles III obverses in a transitional dual-portrait format following her death in September 2022.
