The Loch Ness Monster entered the modern public imagination largely through a single photograph — the so-called "Surgeon's Photograph" of 1934, later exposed as a hoax involving a toy submarine fitted with a sculpted head. The Royal Mint has increasingly used the bullion and commemorative series to mine British folklore, a commercial strategy that accelerated sharply after Brexit repositioned the Mint's identity around distinctly domestic iconography.
