| 正面描述 | Draped bust of President Jaafar Nimeiry facing slightly right, wearing traditional Sudanese turban and eyeglasses, set within a rectangular recessed frame occupying the central field of the hexagonal flan. To the left of the bust, the Gregorian years '1956' and '1981' are inscribed in Latin numerals; to the right, the corresponding Hijri years '١٣٧٥' and '١٤٠١' appear in Arabic-Indic numerals. An Arabic legend arching across the upper field reads 'الذكرى الخامسة والعشرون للاستقلال' (25th Anniversary of Independence), while a lower Arabic legend within a curved band reads 'جمهورية السودان الديمقراطية' (Democratic Republic of Sudan). |

Sudan's 25th independence anniversary fell in 1981, marking a quarter-century since Britain and Egypt jointly relinquished the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium in January 1956 — an arrangement that had technically made Sudan the co-property of two colonial powers simultaneously. By 1981, Nimeiry's government was deep into its turn toward Islamist policy, and commemorative gold issues like this one served partly as hard-currency fundraising instruments directed at Gulf investors rather than domestic circulation.
