100 Piso Teresa Magbanua

Teresa Magbanua — the "Visayan Joan of Arc" — led armed resistance against both Spanish and American colonial forces at the turn of the twentieth century, one of the very few women to do so in a direct combat capacity in the Philippines. Her commemoration here came as part of the BSP's broader NGC (National Cultural Treasures) coin program honoring Filipino heroes underrepresented in mainstream numismatic issues. Nordic gold, a copper-aluminum-zinc alloy developed in the 1990s, was chosen partly for its resistance to counterfeiting through its distinctive golden appearance without actual gold content.
