Issued to mark the papal visit of John Paul II to the Philippines in January 1995 — his second visit to the country, the first having been in 1981 — this coin was struck in anticipation of what became one of the largest single gatherings in human history. The closing Mass at Luneta Park drew an estimated four to six million people, a figure that still ranks among the highest recorded attendance for any papal event.
