The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas issued this commemorative 100 Piso note in 2013 to mark the centennial of the Iglesia ni Cristo, the indigenous Philippine Christian denomination founded by Félix Manalo in 1914 — though the church officially dates its own founding to July 27, 1914, making the 2013 issue a centennial anticipation rather than a precise anniversary observance. It is one of a growing number of polymer-adjacent commemorative paper issues the BSP has produced for domestic religious and civic occasions, printed at its own Security Plant Complex rather than outsourced abroad.
Collector demand for this note comes almost entirely from within the Philippines, particularly from INC members, which has affected secondary market pricing disproportionately to its actual scarcity.
