Landsberg in Oberschlesien — now Góra Świętej Anny in Poland — issued this note during the most volatile period of the Upper Silesian plebiscite crisis. The vote of March 1921 had just taken place, and the Third Silesian Uprising broke out in May of that same year. Local Notgeld from the region in this period was as much a political statement as a monetary stopgap, with German-speaking municipalities asserting administrative continuity while the fate of the territory remained contested in Paris.
The issuing municipality ceased to exist as a German entity within a few years of issue, which curtailed any redemption process and left surviving notes in the hands of collectors rather than returning them to the treasury.
