Grünberg in Hessen is a small Hessian market town — population well under ten thousand even today — and its 1922 notgeld issue is a product of the broader municipal emergency currency wave that swept German towns during the hyperinflationary spiral following the First World War. Gebrüder Parcus of Munich were prolific notgeld printers during this period, supplying dozens of municipalities with competently produced small-denomination paper, and their work here is characteristic of the firm's commercial output.
The 100 Pfennig denomination places this squarely in the transitional phase of 1922, when inflation had already badly eroded purchasing power but full hyperinflationary collapse was still months away.
