Magistrat' appears with two facsimile signatures, and a validity clause in Gothic script reads 'Dieser Gutschein verliert seine Gültigkeit drei Monate nach öffentlicher Aufforderung des Magistrates zur Zahlung bei den städtischen Kassen'. |

Frankfurt an der Oder's municipal administration issued this 100 Pfennig note in 1922 as Notgeld — emergency scrip produced during the hyperinflationary spiral that was already consuming the Reichsmark's purchasing power. Municipal and commercial bodies across Germany issued billions of marks' worth of such notes in this period, not as novelties but out of genuine necessity, as the central government struggled to keep small-denomination currency in circulation.
The designer credit "Jochem" is uncommon enough to suggest a local commercial artist rather than a professional printing house engraver. Frankfurt an der Oder had its own municipal printing capacity by this period, consistent with the stated place of production.
