Obverse description Cream-toned note with a bold dark brown border inscription reading 'HAUPTSTADT' on the left and right verticals and 'UNDHANDELS' along the top. At centre, the municipal coat of arms of Frankfurt an der Oder — a red eagle above a rooster on a red and white quartered shield — is flanked by two stylised torch or lance vignettes with the denomination '100 Pf.' rendered in large Gothic lettering on each side. Below the arms the issuer legend 'FRANKFURT A.O. Magistrat' appears with two facsimile signatures, and a validity clause in Gothic script reads 'Dieser Gutschein verliert seine Gültigkeit drei Monate nach öffentlicher Aufforderung des Magistrates zur Zahlung bei den städtischen Kassen'.

Reverse description Buff-toned note with a yellow ochre border bearing a continuous German motto in uppercase lettering. The central vignette, signed 'JOCHEM' at lower right, presents a detailed woodcut-style view of the Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) in Frankfurt an der Oder as seen from the south, with billowing clouds rising behind the Gothic tower and nave. A decorative ribbon banner below the church reads 'Frankfurt a.O. · Marien-Kirche · von Süden', and a stylised interlocked 'M' monogram appears in the upper right corner.

Frankfurt an der Oder's municipal administration issued this 100 Pfennig note in 1922 as Notgeld — emergency scrip produced during the hyperinflationary spiral that was already consuming the Reichsmark's purchasing power. Municipal and commercial bodies across Germany issued billions of marks' worth of such notes in this period, not as novelties but out of genuine necessity, as the central government struggled to keep small-denomination currency in circulation.

The designer credit "Jochem" is uncommon enough to suggest a local commercial artist rather than a professional printing house engraver. Frankfurt an der Oder had its own municipal printing capacity by this period, consistent with the stated place of production.
