Beschrijving voorzijde The silver centre features the Mexican national coat of arms — an eagle displayed in left profile, perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop surrounded by water, with a serpent clutched in its beak and talon. The device is rendered in high relief against a plain field. The aluminium bronze outer ring bears the national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS in raised lettering along the upper arc, flanked at the base by an ornamental laurel and oak wreath tied with a ribbon.

Aanvullende informatie

The Zacatecas issue is part of Mexico's long-running "Estados de la República Mexicana" bimetallic series, which ran from 2003 to 2009 and produced a coin for each of the country's 31 states plus the Federal District. Zacatecas was among the first group struck when the series launched. The silver centre in a bronze ring construction was technically demanding enough that early production runs across the series occasionally showed adhesion issues between the two metals — a known quality control problem the Casa de Moneda worked through in the opening year.
