Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupies the central gold field, depicting an eagle displayed facing left, perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, grasping a serpent in its beak and talon. The design is rendered in high-relief proof finish with the eagle struck in the gold centre insert, contrasting dramatically against the mirrored silver ring. An oak and laurel wreath frames the lower portion of the arms, rendered in silver. The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery of the silver ring in bold raised Latin characters.
