Obverse description The gold centre displays the Mexican national arms in high relief: an eagle displayed facing left, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky islet, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and right talon. The cactus and islet are rendered in fine detail in the gold centre field. The silver outer ring bears a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base, with the encircling legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arching along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters against the deeply mirrored proof field.
