Part of Mexico's long-running series celebrating the nation's 31 states and Federal District, this issue honors Querétaro — the state where the Mexican Constitution of 1917 was drafted and signed, giving the series entry an unusual constitutional weight that most others in the run lack. The Casa de Moneda de México produced these bimetallic collector pieces in relatively modest quantities compared to circulation coinage, with the silver centre adding substantive intrinsic value above face.
Querétaro was also the site of Emperor Maximilian I's execution in 1867, ending the Second Mexican Empire.
