Reverse description The reverse features oval portrait medallions of the two Pinzón brothers, navigators who accompanied Columbus on the 1492 voyage: Martín Alonso Pinzón and Vicente Yáñez Pinzón, with their respective names engraved below each portrait. A sailing vessel, representing the caravels of the 1492 expedition, is depicted above the portraits. The commemorative legend 'V CENTENARIO' with flanking stars arcs across the upper field, referencing the fifth centenary of the discovery of America. The issue year '1991' and the historic date '1492' appear in the lower field, with a rope border encircling the entire design close to the rim.
