Obverse description The silver centre field features the Mexican national arms in high relief: an eagle displayed sinister, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock amid water, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The motif is rendered in a prooflike finish contrasting with the polished aluminium bronze ring. An oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right flank the base of the device, tied at the bottom with a bow. The encircling legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS is incuse in the outer ring, arcing across the upper portion of the coin.
