Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the central field, depicting an eagle displayed in profile perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky island, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and talons. An oak branch and a laurel branch frame the base of the cactus, tied at the bottom. The circumferential legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, all within a beaded border.
