The 100 Pesos state series, launched in 2003, was modeled closely on Mexico's earlier Nuevos Pesos bimetallic architecture — itself a deliberate technological deterrent to counterfeiting after the peso crisis of 1994 decimated public confidence in Mexican currency. Jalisco was among the first states issued in the series. The .925 silver centre makes these among the highest-purity bimetallic circulation coins produced by any major mint in the 2000s, though most were pulled from circulation quickly by collectors aware of the silver content.
