Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms struck in the gold centre, depicting an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a serpent, set against a plain field. The design follows the official national emblem as prescribed for Mexican coinage. An olive branch and an oak branch, tied with a ribbon, flank the base of the central device. The encircling silver ring carries the national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arched along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters. The contrast between the polished proof silver ring and the gold centre lends the design a striking bimetallic appearance.
