This piece belongs to México's long-running "Onza de Plata con Centro de Oro" bimetallic proof program, which Banco de México launched to satisfy both bullion investors and collector markets simultaneously — a rare case where a central bank managed to serve two audiences without compromising either product. The Guerrero reverso draws from the pre-Columbian Mezcala culture, whose stone figures were being actively looted from Guerrero state sites throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, giving the series an uncomfortable archaeological urgency at the time of issue.
