Comments

The Banco de la República del Paraguay was a short-lived institution — established in 1916 and absorbed into the newly created Banco del Paraguay in 1943. Notes from this issuer therefore span a narrow window, and the 1936 series falls squarely in the period when Paraguay was still recovering from the Chaco War, fought against Bolivia between 1932 and 1935. The conflict had devastated state finances and accelerated currency depreciation, making new high-denomination paper a practical necessity rather than a routine reissue.

ABNC's engraved printing for Paraguayan issues of this period is generally well-executed. The watermark is the sole security provision — no serial letter prefixes, thread, or chemical treatment documented for this type.
