Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms in the silver centre, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent, rendered in high relief with fine detail. The scene is set within the bimetallic format, with the aluminium bronze outer ring displaying the arc legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the upper periphery. Flanking the base of the central device are decorative oak and laurel branches, which extend into the outer ring and are struck in the gold-toned alloy. The prooflike finish imparts a sharp contrast between the mirror fields and frosted relief elements.

Reverse description The reverse presents in the silver centre a reproduction of the design from the historical 1950 Mexican commemorative coin celebrating the inauguration of the Southeast Railway (Ferrocarril del Sureste), depicting a steam locomotive at centre flanked by palm trees, a rising sun with radiating rays above, and a coastal landscape below, with the date 1950 in the upper field. A circular legend within the centre reads INAUGURACION DEL FERROCARRIL DEL SURESTE. The aluminium bronze outer ring carries the arc legend HERENCIA NUMISMATICA DE MEXICO along the upper periphery, with the mint mark Mo at the left and the date 2012 at the right. The denomination $100 appears in the lower portion of the outer ring. A border of small raised beads separates the inner silver disc from the outer ring.
