| Beschrijving voorzijde | The silver centre features the Mexican national coat of arms, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus and devouring a serpent, rendered in fine relief. The aluminium bronze ring bears the circular legend 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS' along the upper arc, with a laurel and oak branch tied by a ribbon decorating the lower portion of the ring. |

The 100 Pesos bimetallic series, launched in 2002 and running through 2010, was commissioned to commemorate each of Mexico's 31 states plus the Federal District. Colima — one of the smallest and least populous states — is represented here in a run that kept face value nominal against collector premiums, given the silver content alone approaches the denomination at spot. These were never intended as circulation pieces.
The series was timed to build toward the 2010 bicentennial of Mexican independence, giving the Banco de México a decade-long issuing program with a built-in endpoint.
