| 正面描述 | The Mexican national arms occupy the centre gold field, depicting the iconic eagle displayed in left profile, perched upon a cactus rising from a rocky islet amid water, with a serpent clutched in its beak and talon. The design is rendered in high-relief proof finish, with the gold centre contrasting sharply against the outer silver ring. An ornamental wreath of oak and laurel frames the lower portion of the arms. The encircling legend reads ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the upper periphery of the silver ring. |

Part of a long-running series celebrating Mexico's states, this Chiapas issue was produced by the Casa de Moneda under a program authorized in the early 2000s to issue bimetallic proof collector pieces for each of the 31 states plus the Federal District. The gold centre — a small but genuine .999 disc — kept mintages tightly controlled by production cost alone, typically landing under 1,000 pieces per state issue.
Chiapas had been the subject of intense international attention since the 1994 Zapatista uprising, which began on the day NAFTA took effect.
