100 Pesos Banco de Londres y Río de la Plata

The Banco de Londres y Río de la Plata was the Argentine subsidiary of the London and River Plate Bank, one of the first British overseas banks to establish serious operations in South America. By 1883 it had been operating in Buenos Aires for over two decades, and notes of this denomination circulated alongside provincial and national issues in a banking environment still far from unified — Argentina would not establish a proper central bank until 1935.

Bradbury, Wilkinson's intaglio work for South American commercial banks in this period is generally of high quality, and the interlaced letterpress legend was among the more effective anti-counterfeiting measures available before photomechanical reproduction became a practical threat.
