Reverse description The reverse displays the state coat of arms of Baja California Sur in the gold centre, featuring a shield bearing a scallop shell, rendered in sharp proof relief against the polished gold field. The year 2005 appears above the central device within the gold insert. The silver outer ring carries the inscription ESTADO DE BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR along the upper arc and the denomination $100 at the lower portion, all in raised Latin lettering. The bimetallic contrast between the gold centre and silver ring gives the piece a distinctive bi-tone aesthetic characteristic of this commemorative series.

Additional information

This coin belongs to Mexico's long-running series celebrating the country's 31 states plus the Federal District, with each issue pairing gold and fine silver in a format the Casa de Moneda introduced in the early 2000s to target the high-end collector market. Baja California Sur holds the distinction of being Mexico's second-youngest state, having achieved statehood only in 1974 — the last territory to make that transition before the Federal District question resurfaced decades later.

The gold centres on this series were struck separately and pressed into the silver ring, a process that occasionally produced minor fitting inconsistencies across the run.
