This note sits at the precise hinge of Cuban history. Printed by the American Bank Note Company before the revolutionary government had fully consolidated power, the P#93 series was authorized under the pre-revolutionary banking framework but circulated into the early years of the Castro administration — an awkward overlap that the new government resolved by issuing its own notes and progressively withdrawing earlier stock.
The ABNC contract itself was one of the last the company would fulfill for Cuba. By 1961, nationalization had severed that relationship entirely, and Havana would turn to other printers for subsequent issues.
