The upper portion bears the bank title 'El Banco de Guatemala' in ornate script flanked by the numeral '100' on either side, above a central vignette of a quetzal bird perched within an oval frame, with a steam locomotive at left and right in detailed engraved style. A guilloche band across the centre carries the legend 'PAGARÁ AL PORTADOR' and the denomination panel 'CIEN PESOS' in bold letterpress; below, a handwritten date line reads 'Guatemala' followed by the issue date, with three manuscript signatures over printed titles 'Directores' and 'Gerente', and two allegorical female portrait medallions at lower left and right corners. |
