Above the shield rises a cluster of three ostrich plumes. A scroll beneath the supporters bears the national motto 'POR LA RAZON O LA FUERZA'. The Banco Central de Chile was established in August 1925 under pressure from the Kemmerer Mission — the U.S. financial advisory team led by Edwin Kemmerer that swept through Latin America in the 1920s recommending central bank creation and gold-standard adoption across the region. Chile was among the first to comply. The bank inherited a monetary system badly damaged by decades of inconvertible paper currency and political interference in money supply, problems the new institution was explicitly designed to end.
KM# 336 marks the centennial of that founding.
