100 Patacas Year of the Pig

Macau's lunar series patacas were issued under the authority of the Banco Nacional Ultramarino, a Portuguese colonial institution that retained monetary control over the territory until handover to China in 1999. The 1995 Pig issue arrived during a period of acute political negotiation between Lisbon and Beijing, with the Joint Declaration already signed and the clock visibly running on Portuguese administration.

KM#73 is frequently conflated with the gold counterpart struck the same year; the silver is the more common of the pair but sees consistent demand from both lunar series collectors and those assembling pre-handover Macanese material.
