| Obverse description | Central depiction of the ornate Baroque façade of the Ruins of St. Paul's Church (São Paulo), rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. The legend 'MACAU' arcs across the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals, while the date '2002' is inscribed along the lower periphery. Ten five-pointed stars flank the central motif symmetrically on either side, arranged in a circular border pattern. |

Macau's lunar series coins were produced in the twilight of Portuguese administrative overlap — the handover to China occurred in 1999, but coin design and minting contracts already in motion continued under the new SAR government largely unchanged. The 2002 Horse issue was struck at the British Royal Mint under arrangements inherited from the colonial period.
KM#107 is frequently confused in dealer stocks with the brass-clad base metal version issued concurrently for circulation.
