Macau's lunar series coins have been issued since 1983, making this one of the longer-running such programs among Asian monetary authorities. The 2018 dog issue falls in the second full cycle through the zodiac, a point at which collector demand for the series had matured considerably compared to the tentative early runs of the 1980s. At 155.50 grams, these large-format silvers were struck at a relatively modest mintage ceiling, as AMCM consistently kept lunar issues limited to sustain secondary market interest.
