Bradbury Wilkinson printed this 100 Patacas series for the Banco Nacional Ultramarino at their New Malden facility during a politically sensitive period — Macau's status had been effectively redefined by the 1976 Organic Statute, which reclassified the territory as a "Chinese territory under Portuguese administration," a formulation with no precedent in colonial law. The BNU continued as the sole note-issuing bank regardless, a role it had held since 1902.
Bradbury Wilkinson was absorbed into De La Rue in 1990, making any attribution to that printer a terminus ante quem for the series. Pick 57 is the last BNU Macau issue before the 1980s redesign.
