| Opis awersu | The obverse features an elaborate, finely detailed rendering of the Bhutanese royal coat of arms rendered in high relief within a circular inner field. At the centre is a double vajra (dorje) cross surmounted by a lotus blossom and flame finial, flanked symmetrically by two highly stylised druk (thunder dragons) with serpentine bodies and scrolling cloud-work filling the field. Lotus flowers and decorative foliage occupy the lower portion of the design. The Latin legend KINGDOM OF BHUTAN arcs along the upper border, while a Dzongkha inscription in Tibetan script appears along the lower border. |

Bhutan's Royal Monetary Authority has issued dragon-themed collector pieces on a recurring basis, timed to the Tibetan-influenced lunisolar calendar's twelve-year cycle. 2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon — a designation that occurs only once every sixty years, combining the twelve animal signs with the five elemental cycles. That specificity drives collector demand far beyond a standard lunar year issue.
The RMA has no physical mint of its own; production is contracted to foreign facilities, most commonly in Austria or South Korea.
