| Obverse description | Oval cast copper flan with a raised border enclosing a central square hole. Four Chinese characters are arranged vertically in the field, two above and two below the central aperture, reading 筑前通寳 (Chikuzen-tsūhō, meaning 'Chikuzen Currency'). The characters are rendered in a bold, archaic clerical script style typical of Japanese domain coinage of the late Edo period. The plain raised rim frames the composition with a clean, unadorned border. |
