Obverse description The obverse features an elaborate incuse design of 21 overlapping wave crests (namisen) rendered in the traditional Japanese seigaiha (青海波) wave pattern, arranged in horizontal registers across the entire field. Each wave is delineated by raised curved lines forming a scalloped, fan-like motif, creating a highly stylized representation of the sea. The design fills the coin face to the rim with no legend or inscription, the waves radiating outward in a symmetrical, concentric pattern characteristic of Edo-period domain coinage. The overall effect is deeply relief-carved into the copper flan, producing a bold tactile surface texture.
