Opmerkingen

Trial pieces from Thomas De La Rue's contract work for the Tesouro Nacional in the late 1930s occupy an awkward space — never formally authorized for circulation, produced to demonstrate color, paper quality, or design adjustments to the commissioning authority. Whether this particular proof was submitted as part of a competitive tender or produced mid-contract as a revision sample is difficult to establish with certainty. De La Rue held longstanding relationships with several South American treasuries during this period, Brazil among them.

Trial notes of this series rarely entered archival collections on the Brazilian side, which is why most survivors are traceable to De La Rue's own records or the London trade.
