Brazil's Thesouro Nacional leaned heavily on the American Bank Note Company throughout the early republic period, and this note belongs to one of the longest-running series in Brazilian fiscal history — the 16th printing spans nearly two decades of issuance, bridging the relative stability of the Old Republic's final years through the Vargas Revolution of 1930 and well into the Estado Novo dictatorship. The political regime changed dramatically; the note design did not.
That longevity created real authentication headaches. Serial number ranges and signature combinations are the primary tools for dating individual examples within the 1924–1942 window, and forged or altered signatures on this type have been documented in the literature.
