The Banco da República dos Estados Unidos do Brazil was a short-lived institution — formed in 1890 through the forced merger of the Banco do Brasil and the Banco Nacional do Brazil, it collapsed under the weight of the Encilhamento, the rampant speculative bubble that followed Brazil's abrupt shift to a paper-money economy after the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889. The bank was liquidated in 1892, making the issuance window for this series genuinely narrow.
ABNC production in New York was standard for Brazilian issues of this period, but the political instability meant many notes printed never completed normal distribution cycles.
