Opmerkingen

The Banco da República do Brasil was itself a short-lived institution — formed in 1892 through the forced merger of the Banco do Brasil and the Banco da República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil, it collapsed in 1896 under the weight of the Encilhamento's speculative wreckage, one of the most destructive financial crises in Brazilian history. Notes of this series were circulating during the worst of the deflation and credit contraction that followed Rui Barbosa's experiment with expansionist monetary policy.

Giesecke & Devrient's Leipzig plant was the dominant supplier of Brazilian currency printing during this period, a relationship that predated the Republic itself.
