Mozambique's polymer notes have been in production since the 2011 series, when the central bank shifted away from paper in response to chronic durability problems in a hot, humid circulation environment where low-denomination notes were deteriorating rapidly. The 100 Meticais occupies a mid-range position in a currency that shed three zeros during the 2006 redenomination — the "new metical" replacing the old at 1:1000 following years of post-civil-war inflation that had rendered small denominations functionally useless.
P#157 is the most recent iteration. Polymer substrate is sourced through De La Rue or comparable suppliers; Mozambique does not print domestically.
