Finland was still a Grand Duchy of Russia when this note was printed, and the trilingual title — Finnish, Swedish, and Russian — reflects that awkward administrative reality directly. The gold designation ("kullassa / i guld / zolotom") wasn't decorative phrasing; Finnish markka notes of this period were explicitly redeemable in gold coin, a convertibility the bank maintained until the First World War forced suspension in 1914.

Pick 19 exists in several signature varieties, which is what the "E" suffix denotes. Suomen Pankki kept meticulous records and signature combinations can be tied to specific signing periods, making variety attribution here more reliable than in many contemporary series.
