Opmerkingen

Danzig's municipal authority began issuing its own paper currency following the city's detachment from Germany and establishment as a Free City under League of Nations protection in 1920. The Stadtgemeinde notes filled a practical gap while the newly created Bank of Danzig was still finding its footing — the central bank wasn't formally chartered until 1923, leaving municipal and commercial issuers to cover demand in the interim.

The 1922 inflation context matters here. Germany's hyperinflationary spiral was directly affecting Danzig's economy despite its nominally separate status, and the 100 Mark denomination that would have seemed substantial in 1920 was already losing ground by the time this note circulated.
