| Obverse description | Within a recessed black-enamelled field, a mounted musician depicted in profile riding a galloping horse to the right, playing a wind instrument, rendered in high relief in a stylised traditional manner. The circular legend around the upper periphery reads 'AZƏRBAYCAN RESPUBLİKASI' (Republic of Azerbaijan), separated by raised dots, with 'YÜZ' (One Hundred) at lower left and 'MANAT' at lower right flanking the date '1999' at the base, all in raised Latin characters against the dark field. |

| Additional information |
The Book of Dede Korkut is a collection of twelve Oghuz Turkish epic tales whose oldest manuscript copies, held in Dresden and the Vatican, date to the 15th century — though the oral traditions behind them are considerably older. Azerbaijan and Turkey have long disputed cultural primacy over the text. This coin was issued in 1999, the same year UNESCO marked the tales' 1300th anniversary, a dating that is itself a scholarly convention rather than a documented historical anchor.
