Opmerkingen

The Imperial Ottoman Bank — technically a Franco-British joint-stock institution chartered in 1863, not a state institution — held the exclusive right to issue banknotes throughout the Ottoman Empire. By 1918 that arrangement was severely strained. The war had severed the bank's operational ties to its Paris and London shareholders, and printing had shifted to Berlin as a consequence of the Ottoman-German alliance. Bundesdruckerei (then still operating under its earlier name Reichsdruckerei) handled the production.

Notes of this series are frequently found with severe paper deterioration — wartime paper stocks in Berlin were already compromised by 1918, and the chemistry has not aged well.
