Additional information

Chaim Weizmann, Israel's first president, was also the chemist whose acetone fermentation process — developed for the British war effort in 1916 — gave him direct access to Lloyd George and Balfour, a relationship that contributed materially to the 1917 Balfour Declaration. The 1983 issue marks the centenary of his birth in Motal, then part of the Russian Empire.

KM#41 was struck at the Jerusalem mint in proof and proof-like formats as part of Israel's established commemorative gold program. The .917 fineness aligns with the historical crown gold standard rather than the finer .999 issues that became more common in later Israeli commemorative series.
